About Us

The Grisbaum Group of Long & Foster Real Estate is a one-stop shop in central Ocean City where a buyer or seller can find services to fill all of his or her real estate needs.

Doug Grisbaum and John Lazzara have been working together since 2000, forming a relationship in which each complements the other. Grisbaum is the idea guy, often working outside the box to help get the deal done, while Lazzara is the nuts-and-bolts guy who is good at dotting all of the I’s and crossing all of the T’s.

The Grisbaum Group is made up of a half-dozen agents, a secretary and an administrative assistant, but due to their vast experience, the network stretches far and wide to include architects, mortgage lenders, homeowners insurance agents, title agencies, interior designers and home inspectors, as well as remodeling and repair contractors.

The team consists of principals Doug Grisbaum and John Lazzarra, agents Ellwood “Woody” Paisley, Suzanne Hampton, Kim Bailey, Amanda Mathis, and Donna Drohan, as well as administrative assistant Lori Condon and secretary Linda Herbert.

Grisbaum worked for his father at Berger Realty starting in about 1986, then teamed up with Lazzara in 2000. Together they dominated the bayfront real estate market, becoming top sellers at Berger year after year.

Earlier in 2000, Grisbaum had realized he couldn’t handle his growing workload without help, so he urged a friend, Woody, to get his real estate license and join him part time. “Woody was always a very honest and straight forward guy, and I thought that would be really good in the real estate business,” Grisbaum said.

He knew Paisley, who had sold him several cars and went to the same beach, and hired him to work part time holding open houses. That freed Grisbaum up to take more clients out to see homes.

Grisbaum then hired Lazzara. “John came on board part-time, also doing open houses. He liked it so much that he quickly decided to go into real estate full time,” Grisbaum said.

Lazzara said holding open houses is an asset to the seller as well as potential buyers. “Our network of open houses is a lot better than anything out there right now,” Lazzara said. “We are all out there Saturday and Sunday and we have six or seven listings that are being used each week. So if I am at one house and my partner is at another and the buyer is looking for that type of house, I am going to tell them to take a look at that one.”

Things really started taking off at that point, and the team expanded to hire secretarial staff.\n“I was building my own team within the company,” Grisbaum said.

Some team members have come and gone, but the next existing member to join was Suzanne Hampton.

“The cool thing about Suzanne is she’s got such good rapport with her customers,” Grisbaum said. “She is really good at taking care of the customer, buyer or seller. Customer service for her is very important.”

In 2016, the team parted ways with Berger and opened the office at 1225 West Ave. under Long & Foster Real Estate, creating The Grisbaum Group. Long & Foster is one of the largest family-owned real estate companies in the country, with more than 10,000 agents and 236 offices nationwide.

The move to a nationally recognized company gave The Grisbaum Group a lot of advantages, such as increased marketing opportunities, training and support. It also offers clients the opportunity to have their property listings seen by a much broader range of potential buyers.

“We are excited about the new opportunities that are available to us through Long & Foster,” Condon said, noting that selling real estate has evolved into much more than an MLS listing and sign in the front yard.

When they made the move, they invited Kim Bailey to join them. “Kim’s greatest asset is she is very good at open houses. She is very good at talking with people and getting their trust, then finding them their perfect home,” Grisbaum said.

The next two agents hired after moving into the new office were Amanda Mathis, who just recently earned her license, and Donna Drohan, who was previously licensed with Berger and worked part-time and is now with The Grisbaum Group full-time.

“They both live in Ocean City and love it here. That’s the big thing with us, as a team, is that we all love our town and are part of it in some way,” Grisbaum said.

Grisbaum said buying and/or selling your home is perhaps the single biggest financial transaction one will ever undertake, so why not use a team of seasoned agents that has such a vast overall knowledge?

“At the Grisbaum Group, we believe in staying ahead of the vast and ever-changing ways real estate is sold and marketed,” Grisbaum said. “In 2017, we are paid partners with Zillow, Trulia and Realtor.com, among others. Many agents say they use the above-listed websites, but in order to properly market and find a ready and willing buyer, just being on those sites isn’t good enough. We are constantly reinventing ourselves and hoping to expand even more in 2017.”
